The Mandarin World Language program at San Miguel Avenue Elementary School was established in 2019. Our goal is to provide nurturing learning environment while receiving a balanced yet rigorous academic instruction in both English and Mandarin Chinese. We empower students become literate and fluent in the language spoken by 1.8 billion people around the world and increase students' professional and academic opportunities for the global economy of the future.
Kindergarten students who participate in our program do not have to speak Mandarin. The program will teach students to speak, read, and write Mandarin Chinese and English. Our program is a self-contained 50/50 model; instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Mandarin, which is taught by the same teacher who is fluently in both languages. Students spend half the day in Mandarin and half in English.
